Historical Brief

In 1969, the Republican Decree No. (1088) was issued to establish some new faculties that would be affiliated to the universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Alexandria and Assuit. Among these faculties was Tanta Faculty of Science that was affiliated to Alexandria University. Then on December 22, 1969, the Ministerial Decree No. 654 was issued stating applying the bylaw of Faculty of Science, Alexandria University on Faculty of Science, Tanta University. Upon this, the Faculty would be consisted of six practical departments: 1- The Department of Mathematics 2- The Department of Physics 3- The Department of Chemistry 4- The Department of Geology 5- The Department of Botany 6- The Department of Zoology . Faculty of Science seeks to keep up its excellence educational fields and to disseminate knowledge of basic and applied sciences as well as research areas to participate in community development. .

Faculty of Science, Tanta University, is committed to be distinguished in offering educational programs in basic sciences which enable students to acquire the basic knowledge and skills needed for competition in labor market. Moreover, the Faculty aims to upgrade scientific research system in order to conduct outstanding research in basic and applied sciences that help to develop the educational process and to solve community problems at the local and regional levels.

Faculty of Science seeks to improve its strategy and systems to accomplish its aims and to assure effectiveness of its educational programs continuously. According to its mission, goals and objectives of the Faculty are as follows: The First Goal: Development of institutional ability
It included the following strategic objectives:

1- To develop skills of the administrative body.
2- To computerize administrative work.
3- To renew, update and keep infrastructure of the Faculty.
4- To gain accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE).

The Second Goal: Excellence in the educational process according to the national and international academic criteria. It includes the following strategic objectives:

1- To develop the practical and theoretical curricula constantly.
2- To increase efficiency of faculty members.
3- To improve students’ scientific and cultural abilities.
4- To reduce number of students in auditoriums and labs.
5- To develop and enhance national affiliation and to keep genuine principles and values of society.

The Third Goal: Development of scientific research system. It includes the following strategic objectives:

1- To develop, update and create new postgraduate programs.
2- To improve research labs at the Faculty.
3- To enhance scientific partnership and international cooperation in fields of scientific research.
4- To enrich spirit and culture of teamwork for faculty members.

The Fourth Goal: Enhancement of social participation and development of local environment. It includes the following strategic objectives:

1- To enrich spirit and culture of community service for faculty members and students.
2- To increase participation of the Faculty in scientific consultations and environment service.
3- To apply international criteria to keep the environment inside units and labs of the Faculty.
4- To follow up graduates and effective means of communication with them.
The Fifth Goal: Development of financial resources of the Faculty. It includes increasing the financial resources of the Faculty.
