The 4th Environmental Forum Concludes with Recommendations to Support the Transition to Clean Energy and Promote Scientific Research

The 4th Environmental Forum, held under the title “New and Renewable Energy,” concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at supporting scientific research and innovation, promoting efforts toward the transition to clean energy, and exploring new opportunities for utilizing sustainable energy sources to support development.

Prof. Abeer Alam Al-Din, Faculty Dean, chaired the forum’s closing session, which featured a review of the key issues addressed during the scientific sessions, including perspectives and discussions on the future of new and renewable energy and the need to develop sustainable scientific and practical solutions in response to environmental and climate challenges.

The recommendations underscored the significance of directing academic research and graduation projects toward new and renewable energy and sustainability, and encouraging researchers and students to develop applicable ideas and innovations that contribute to addressing real-world challenges in the energy and environmental sectors.

Moreover, the forum recommended strengthening the strategic partnership between the university, the industrial sector, and civil society organizations through the Community Service and Environmental Development sectors, thereby supporting the transfer of knowledge from academia to practical application and contributing to transforming research findings and innovations into solutions and projects with social and economic impact.

Furthermore, the recommendations stressed the importance of supporting the transition to clean energy and a low-carbon economy, while working to reduce carbon emissions and adopt more sustainable practices across various sectors.

The forum further called for expanding the utilization of mineral resources, particularly rare minerals, and directing greater research attention toward their use in manufacturing energy storage systems and batteries, as one of the promising pathways for developing sustainable energy-storage solutions.

In addition, the forum placed particular emphasis on green hydrogen, highlighting the importance of supporting research and development in this field and harnessing its potential as one of the promising pathways that could contribute to strengthening Egypt’s stature and competitiveness in the global energy market.

The recommendations also called on higher education and scientific research institutions to direct researchers toward energy-related issues and support applied research and innovations that offer real, effective, and implementable solutions, thereby enhancing the role of scientific research in addressing current and future challenges.

The forum concluded its recommendations by emphasizing that investment in science and innovation is a fundamental pillar for creating a sustainable energy future, and that strengthening integration among the university, the industrial sector, and community organizations is an important pathway for transforming scientific ideas and research into applications that contribute to sustainable development and serve the community.
