Under the patronage of Prof. Abeer Abdel Hamid Alam Al-Din, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Tanta University, and under the supervision of Prof. Zenhom El-Said Salem, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, the faculty organized a workshop on Sunday, September 13, 2026, under the title “Firefighting Techniques and Laboratory Safety in the Department of Chemistry Laboratories.”
The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector — represented by the Crisis and Disaster Management Unit and the Training Unit — and the Department of Chemistry. It was held in the Seminar Hall of the Department of Physics and attended by Prof. Zenhom Salem, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Abdullah Khedr, Head of the Department of Chemistry; Prof. Abdel Baset Shokr, Emeritus Professor at the Department of Chemistry; Brigadier General Osama El-Gamal, Director of Faculty Security; and a number of faculty members, teaching assistants, and administrative staff from the Department of Chemistry.
The workshop addressed the methods and techniques for extinguishing fires and responding to them safely. The session was delivered by Captain Nasser Wahba from Faculty Security, with the participation of Brigadier General Osama El-Gamal. It also featured a talk by Prof. Abdel Baset Shokr on laboratory safety rules and procedures.
The workshop was organized as part of the faculty’s commitment to promoting the concept of laboratory safety and security and raising awareness of preventive measures and proper emergency response procedures.
