Prof. Abeer Alam El-Din — Dean of the Faculty of Science, Tanta University — and Prof. Amgad Salama — Vice Dean for Student Affairs — extend their sincere congratulations to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) student team at Tanta University on achieving a distinguished scientific accomplishment in the Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) competition 2026.
The university team secured second place among Egyptian universities and fifth place across African universities — an achievement that reflects the excellence of the faculty’s students and their ability to compete at both regional and international levels.
This accomplishment is the result of sustained effort and outstanding teamwork. The participation was not merely a scientific experience, but a rich journey filled with challenges and learning opportunities, highlighting the importance of teamwork and the integration of diverse skills in achieving success.
The team presented a comprehensive study on the project titled: “Walrus Area, Deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico,” covering several advanced scientific aspects, including: Regional Geology, Seismic Interpretation, Petroleum System Analysis, Petrophysical Evaluation, and Prospect Assessment. These components were integrated effectively to deliver a precise scientific evaluation of potential petroleum opportunities.
Accordingly, the Faculty Administration extends its sincere congratulations to the student team members: Youssef Ismail, Ahmed Hafez, Hager Mahmoud, Eman Badr, and Mohamed Yehia, commending their outstanding performance, which reflects the high level of students at the Faculty of Science, Tanta University.
